1. Describe the logo using the language of the Elements and Principles of Design.
This logo makes a clear presentation of the message being conveyed in the logo showing the poison symbol. It uses 2 basic colours in the design which creates a good contrast between the bp green sign, and the skull. Even though the bp logo is small, it still stands out when it is placed on the larger poison symbol. The short message "beware of pirates" is also straight forward and simple. B & P are coloured green to represent BP's company. The logo is creative, simple and straight forward.

2. Describe the symbols used in the logo. Why did the graphic artist use such imagery?
The poison symbol used with BP's main logo shows how they have caused poison in our world. The phrase beware of pirates symbolizes the poison sign, because skulls are a symbolism of pirates. This graphic artist chose to use pirates as a symbol of destruction because BP has caused destruction in our economy and killed many living organisms. The graphic artist has definetly chose an appropriate symbol for  logo.

3. What does this logo say of BP's corporate identity?
This logo shows that BP's corporate identity is disliked by many people because of the corruption they have created to our world. The poison symbol used in this logo shows that BP has brought poison to our oceans because of their oil spill. Greenpeace has definetly proven to the world that BP is a dangerous corporate company with the logo's that have been created for the competition. I think that this logo in particular has definety proven that BP's identity has gone from good to terrible.

I chose to do this logo because out of all the logo's I saw, I think that this logo is the most clear and straight forward. I also find it clever how it is designed to show the symbolism and how "beware of pirates" fits well with BP. It's also clever how they placed the BP logo as the eyepatch for the skull because it fits the symbolism very well. The graphic artist has definetly done a good job showing the principles of design and the main idea of the competition. 

1. Is this acting or is this animation?

I believe that the movie Avatar is both acting and animation. The movie contains both human characters and the animated blue human creature. Without actors acting the roles of these blue creatures, the movie wouldn't have it's detailed and realistic features. Without animation in this movie, it also wouldn't have the same distinct and unique effect. The digital software has transformed the actions of the human actors into animationed creatures, which is why the movie Avatar should be categorized as both acting and animation.


2. Do you think that animated character should be eligible for acting awards?

I do not think that animated characters should be eligible for acting awards because they do not fully show their acting abilities enough to be eligible for the awards. They do not present themselves in a way that can be fully observed by the audience.  Instead their performance is only captured as animated characters on digital animations. If animation characters were eligible for awards, i think they should deserve a different award because animated acting compared to actual acting is very different. Both forms of acting are difficult and complex, but I believe that an animated character should not be eligible for acting awards.


3. Do you think that human actors will ever become obsolete? Why or why not?

I do not believe that human actors will ever become obsolete because no matter how much technology develops, they cannot improvise the human characteristics. If technology replaced humans, it would not feel as realistic and emotional. Each human presents a different and unique personality when they act a specific character in each movie. I do not believe that technology could ever replace this and make human actors become obsolete.

The image of the light graffiti shows a saxophone with music notes and ribbon drawn with light. These music notes and ribbons are drawn simply and also show good contrast in colour. The light graffiti was photoshopped with vibrant colours with shadows and gradiant effects. the music notes stand out, but so does the saxophone. This piece of light graffiti presents a good overall picture that attracts attention to all viewers.

The image of the spray can graffiti was taken on my trip with the other visual art students in downtown. This graffiti was found in an alley on the side of the building. The graffiti shows detail in the creative design of the blue person in the back with the bleeding smiley face. The portrait is abstract and shows a mix of different elements all in one creation of spray can graffiti. The picture creates curiosity and messages when you observe the pictures. It makes me wonder "why is the face smiling, but bleeding at the same time" and "why is there a circle at the centre of the blue man's forehead" ? The spray can graffiti expresses emotion in a very unique and original way.

Both light graffiti and traditional graffiti are both a creative way to express ones feelings and emotions. Graffiti is a way that claims a property, some are credited and some are not. The light graffiti is more of a form of media art created with photoshop. It gives off a computerized professional look, while the traditional graffiti shows a more professional artistic work. Although both forms of graffiti look very different, but they still show the same concept and a very good piece of art.

A Fair(y) Use Tale


1.This mashup uses scenes from Disney movies to present the idea and message of copyright laws. These scenes show an abstract video of media arts and also somewhat of a comedic parody. It is a creative way to show the work of media art with the repetition of words and scenes from many Disney movies. It is educational towards the legal copyright laws and shows a good example of proper credits.

2. The creator Eric Faden did not break any copyright laws in A Fair(y) Use Tale. He credited Disney for the clips that he took to create his new video. The video is ironic because he uses the scenes from Disney movies to create a story about copyright laws.


3.Yes I think that this mashup requires copyright permission because the creator Eric Faden used video clips from movies. When using these scenes in the mashup, the creator must ask permission to use these clips in another creation. They must also give credit to the original creator of these clips.

When I first saw this video by Radiohead, I felt so thankful because we don't have to suffer unlike those children working in China. We don't have to spend our day making shoes and suffering child labour. We are able to wake up from our comfy beds, eat a full meal and go to school. The events shown in this video suits the song's soothing and sad tune.

Child labour is presented by the media to show all viewers how tough the life of a child can be. This video is based on issues in China, where child labour is common everywhere. 'All I Need' shows how the children are too poor to afford to go to school and have a warm home to live in. The message is for us to be thankful for how blessed and wonderful our lives are right now. Radiohead has made this video to show all viewers how lucky we are.

The storyline in this video is very basic. It shows the daily routines and life comparing the poor children in China and the life that we live. The song lyrics "all I need" show how the children can live with such basic needs. It also tells us that we don't need many material things and complications in our life. All we need is the simple things to live our lives.

Radiohead is one of my favourite bands to listen to when I'm feeling sad because it calms my mood with the soft soothing beats. Each video by Radiohead is very unique and meaningful compared to other videos. Not many bands would use music video's to show our world issues, which is why I respect Radiohead so much. Radiohead has definetly found a great way to show their meaning in their song and portrayed it in their video 'All I Need'.

Facebook is a very powerful online social networking that is used by more than 200 countries in the world. Many of our friends and family make Facebook to interact and keep in touch with each other. I use this website daily myself to view my friends photo's and profiles. Facebook can be a great entertainment but also dangerous in many ways.


Almost anyone in the world could view your information if it was not protected by users. Many stalkers or advertisers would be able to access your information and do anything they wanted with it. Some people may think, "oh that's alright, it's just a simple picture!". This one picture could potentially be sent all over the world and saved on computers. Who knows what people would do with your picture? They could also post your picture anywhere they wanted and on any website which could be seen by anyone. 


The internet is just like walking out of your house, many dangerous things can happen. If you do not control your privacy many wrong things can happen with your information. Although, there are ways to protect your information, especially on Facebook. Most websites have options that allow you to limit who can view your profile and what information they can see from you.

Personally, I do not like to post much information or photos on Facebook, so I limit who can access my profile and also who can view my photos. Also, I would not post personal contact information on any social networking website because anyone could potentially access the information.

When you're information is safely taken care of, social network sites can be really fun and entertaining! There's no need to be scared of stalkers if your information is safe. So go out there and enjoy social networking!
